This is a plaque laid by the East Grinstead Rotary Club in 2005. It is to mark the renovation of the nearby fountain and 100 years of the movement. The plaque can be found on the ground.

The dis-used drinking fountain is on the southern side of East Grinstead High Street. The York Stone drinking fountain was installed in 1887 to celebrate Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee.

On the morning of the Jubilee, it was covered in a black pitch resin by members of the town’s band annoyed at the withdrawal of their funding by Reverend Crawford, who had donated the fountain.

There has been demand from some residents to connect the fountain to the mains water supply. However, the town council determined that this may not be a viable option and are instead encouraging visitors to visit businesses taking part in the 'refill' scheme.

The plaque reads:
The seal of the borovghe towne [borough town] of East Grinstead
Drinking Fountain
Designed by the Rev D Y Blakiston and erected by Rev C W Payne Crawford
in 1887 to celebrate Queen Victoria's jubilee.
Renovated by the Rotary Clubs of East Grinstead to mark the first 100
years of the movement in 2005.
