Achthoekige muziekkiosk met een gaaf bewaarde, verfijnde ijzeren constructie uit begin 20ste eeuw, gebouwd naar een ontwerp en onder leiding van de Stevoortse bouwmeester Hyacinthus Martens.
Historiek
De kiosk stond oorspronkelijk in het centrum van Genk, op de hoek van de Stationsstraat en de Hoogstraat waar zich vandaag het André Dumontmonument bevindt. De kiosk werd gebouwd ter gelegenheid van het 25-jarige bestaan van de Genkse Sint-Martinusfanfare en op 21 augustus 1909 met grote festiviteiten ingehuldigd. De bouw gebeurde volgens een ontwerp en onder leiding van de uit Stevoort afkomstige bouwmeester Hyacinthus Martens. De gietijzeren kolommen en de smeedijzeren elementen zoals balustrade en ornamenten werden vervaardigd door de "Gieterijen van Zelem". Na bombardementen tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog werd het stadscentrum vernieuwd en werd de kiosk voorlopig bij de gemeentelijke Technische Dienst geplaatst. In een eerste fase dacht men aan het Molenvijverpark als locatie, maar in 1974/1975 werd de kiosk heropgebouwd langs de Planetariumweg aan de ingang van het domein Kattevennen, een van de toegangspoorten tot het Nationaal Park Hoge Kempen.

History
The kiosk originally stood in the center of Genk, on the corner of Stationsstraat and Hoogstraat, where today the André Dumont monument is located. The kiosk was built on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Genk Saint Martin fanfare and inaugurated on 21 August 1909 with major festivities. The construction was done according to a design and under the supervision of the architect Hyacinthus Martens from Stevoort. The cast iron columns and wrought iron elements such as balustrade and ornaments were manufactured by the "Foundries of Zelem". After bombardments during the Second World War, the city center was renovated and the kiosk was temporarily placed at the municipal Technical Service. In the first phase, the Molenvijverpark was thought of as a location, but in 1974/1975 the kiosk was rebuilt along the Planetariumweg at the entrance to the Kattevennen domain, one of the gateways to the Hoge Kempen National Park.
