The Museo de Las Memorias (full name: Museo de las Memorias: Dictadura y Derechos Humanos en Paraguay) was an illegal detention center during the dictatorship of president Alfredo Stroessner. It was so secret that only by chance it was discovered several months after the fall of the regime. It was conveniently close to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, literally around the corner. Back in those days it was officially the Dirección Nacional de Asuntos Técnicos (of the police).

Today the place - which is no more than a town villa - can be visited. In the from yard there is an old van, which belonged to the secret police, although everybody in the country knew these vans and feared them.

Then there is an exhibit, with objects of torture, personal belongings of detainees and missing persons, plenty of pictures and documents. The cells area was recreated, as they were removed by the police when the end of the regime came. There was a big effort by those who play the game on the dictatorship side to hide their deeds.
