This cemetery has the same name as the well known Recoleta of Buenos Aires. It's also very interesting, with tombs of several ages and architectonic styles. However is in a poor state of conservation, looking decrepit and decadent, even abandoned.
Its name come from the religious order of the Recoletos, which also passed its name to the neighborhood. The cemetery itself was created during the times of president Lopez (coincidentally the street where the main entrance is, is called Mariscal Lopez), in 1842, when the historical church was built and it was determined that the surrounding lands would be used as a cemetery..
