The Holsten Gate (Holstentor) is a city gate at the western boundary of the old center of the Hanseatic city of Lübeck. Because its two round towers and arched entrance are so well known, this brick Gothic medieval structure has become the symbol of Lübeck. Despite the date on the city side, the gate was completed in 1478. Together with the old city center (Altstadt) of Lübeck it has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987.
