This monument stands on a small square in the north of the old town of Kerkyra. A family of four in bronze, naked and helpless.
Before World War II, here was the center of the Jewish community of the island. It was the strongest Jewish community all over Greece. Corfu was occupied by Italy in 1941, but after the fall of the Mussolini regime, the Italian troops were replaced by Germans in 1943. In June 1944, they deported 1800 of the 2000 Jews of the island to the German concetration camps in Aushwitz and Birkenau. Less than 200 of them survived, and almost none of them returned back to Corfu. Today there are only about 60 Jews left on the island.

Dedicated to the meory of the 2000 Jews of Corfu who perished in the Nazi concentration camps of Aushwitz and Birkenau in June 1944
