The "Drentsche Schans" is based in Den Hool and is run by Gert and Ans ten Hool. There is also an arable farm at the same address, which in fact forms the basis for the Drentsche Schans.

In 2002 the plan was conceived to make beer from the grain from the arable farm and the back house of the farm was converted into a beer tasting room.
In addition to the Drenthe beer, there is now also a Drenthe whiskey in the barrel!
The basic ingredient of both beer and whiskey is malted barley, so actually both products are not that far apart. The first barrels were filled at the end of February 2010 and in April 2016 the first DenHool whiskey was bottled.
