This dam was originally built to create a reservoir to supply water to the City of Eureka, IL. Soon after its building, it became apparent that the lake also offered recreational opportunities, and over the years a park was developed. Now the park is about 240 acres with the 36 acre lake. There is fishing, limited boating, picnicking, hiking, a disc golf course, and sport fields.

Parking is obvious when visiting the dam, but ball diamonds and soccer fields are nearby so when games are going on, parking may be scarce.
