Das Display (Factoid 13) ist Teil des Kunstprojekts "Pi", das 2006 durch den kanadischen Künstler Ken Lum in der unterirdischen Westpassage des Karlsplatzes in Wien realisiert wurde. Das gesamte Projekt umfasst 14 Vitrinen (vom Künstler factoids genannt) mit unterschiedlichen statistisch ermittelten Daten, die in Echtzeit angezeigt werden. Ken Lum realisierte dieses Projekt mit der Unterstützung des Instituts SORA (Institute for Social Research and Consulting), welches die zugrundeliegenden Daten jährlich aktualisiert. Namensgebend für das Projekt ist eine Anzeige der Zahl Pi mit 478 Nachkommastellen, wobei die letzten zehn aktuell errechneten Kommastellen per Computerprogramm auf eine LED-Anzeige eingespielt werden.

The display (Factoid 13) is part of the art project "Pi", which was realized in 2006 by the Canadian artist Ken Lum in the western underground passage of Karlsplatz in Vienna. The entire project comprises 14 mirror panels (called factoids by the artist) with various statistically determined data displayed in real time. Ken Lum realized this project with the support of the Institute for Social Research and Consulting (SORA), which updates the underlying data annually. The project is named after a display of the number Pi with 478 decimal places, whereby the last ten currently calculated decimal places are displayed by a computer program on an LED display.
