The apparatus is located in the courtyard of Cromford Mills near to where a number of different water mills used to operate.

In the area are also a number of leets where water was diverted from the main water source to the wheels.

The apparatus has a number of wooden channels which are movable and a number of small coloured balls that can be placed in the channels. As the balls move along the channels they operate a number of wheels

By using the movable connectors and placing the balls at different ends the balls will flow to different wheels.
Scientific Principle(s) being demonstrated:
Construction of multiple channels and sluices to control the flow of water to a choice of a number of different water mheels.

Briefly explain if the experiment was effective for you. Could it have been better?:
An easy to use and visually interesting demonstration of the use of water channels to drive a selection of water wheels. Would be more interesting with a greater number of balls.

When is the apparatus/experiment available to the public:
9:00 - 17:00 every day except Christmas day
