The monumental building of the State Police Directorate Thuringia on the Andreasstraße in Erfurt was built from 1937 to 1939 as an extension for the located on the cathedral square county court and district court. The architect Wilhelm Pook built it in predominantly neo-Baroque style, it is architecturally a typical representative of Prussian state architecture under National Socialism. From 1948, the building was used as the Ministry of Economic Affairs of the state of Thuringia, from 1952 by the People's Police and from the late 1950s as the district administration Erfurt of the Ministry of State Security. Since 1990, it is the seat of the State Police Directorate Thuringia and the Police Directorate Erfurt.
