The history of fishing starts around 1450 with the construction of the first fishing port.
Over time, the port is regularly expanded and later moved to the current location. The ships from Arnemuiden (ARM) and Vlissingen (VLI) have their home here. The ships from Arnemuiden came here because their home port was no longer accessible.
At present, 12 cutters and 3 Eurocutters bring their fish ashore here.
The fish is traded by the Zeeland Fish Auctions.
The arrival of fish for the Zeeland Fish Auctions takes place from seaward, but is also brought overland, from other harbours. There is a great diversity in the kinds of flatfish, roundfish and prawns.
