"With an open day, Caritas Geeste- Twist has inaugurated a new day care facility for seniors. In the heart of Twist , opposite the town hall, Caritas now offers 15 places to look after and care for older people. Seniors from Twist and Geeste can visit the facility five days a week or even on individual days of the week.
Caritas closes a supply gap with the day care facility in Twist . While such facilities are common in cities, they are still scarce in rural areas. The same applies to the city and the countryside alike: Elderly people prefer to live at home, caring relatives need breaks from caring. How much such a facility - the first of its kind in Twist and the surrounding area - has been missing shows the great demand: all 15 places were exhausted before the day of the inauguration and there is a waiting list, such as Sonja Stagge, head of Caritas Nursing , confirmed.
Between 8:30 am and 4:30 pm, Caritas employees look after and care for day care visitors aged 70 and 99. All meals such as breakfast, lunch and coffee are freshly prepared on-site and together with the seniors. Also, there are many offers for entertainment. Stagge: "There is always something going on here". Anyone who is tired or just wants to have fun as a couple can retire at any time. Special therapies for seniors are offered, for example physiotherapy or memory training. A pick-up and delivery service rounds off the supply.
The 220 square meter premises of the day care facility have been converted for 100,000 euros. "Every euro was worth it," emphasized Twist s mayor Ernst Schmitz, looking at the bright, inviting atmosphere of the building. He was convinced that older people felt comfortable here. He was also pleased that 15 new jobs are being created in and around day care.
The centerpiece of the facility is the lounge, which is also used as a kitchen. Several smaller rooms with beds and electronically adjustable armchairs branch off. The nursing home office is also housed in the building. "An optimal networking," praised mayor Schmitz. Stagge and the head of day care, Stefanie Melisch, also received recognition and encouragement from Christa Ahlers (Deputy Mayor in Geeste / Dalum) and Günter Sandfort (Deputy Director of the Caritas Association for the diocese of Osnabrück).
Spiritual blessings were bestowed on the new institution by Pastor Michael Schiller and Pastor Sabine Half. The pastor of Geeste Parish blessed the rooms, which he praised as "truly tasteful", with holy water and with the words: "This is a place where we can open up to each other and to God." Pastor Half from Lingen called day care facilities " a really good idea ". She described it as a shelter where people could take a break from the difficulties of life: "Old people find here in addition to good care above all fun and variety. Your family members can use the time to do some errands or even think of something else, because they know their parents are in good hands."
