La Rampe verte est située sur le flanc Sambre de la Citadelle. Construite dans la seconde moitié du 17ème siècle, elle permettait aux charrois et aux canons d’accéder à la forteresse. A l’époque, aucune route ne traversait le site. C’était donc le seul accès carrossable menant de la ville à la Citadelle. Si l’origine de son nom n’est pas connue, celui-ci doit probablement faire référence à la végétation qui surplombe la rampe.
La Rampe Verte a été complètement refaite par les Hollandais entre 1820 et 1823.
De groene helling bevindt zich aan de Samberzijde van de Citadel. Het werd gebouwd in de tweede helft van de 17e eeuw, waardoor karren en kanonnen toegang kregen tot het fort. Op dat moment waren er geen wegen over het terrein. Het was dus de enige oprijlaan die van de stad naar de Citadel leidde. Als de oorsprong van de naam niet bekend is, moet deze waarschijnlijk verwijzen naar de vegetatie die uitkijkt over de hellingbaan.
La Rampe Verte werd tussen 1820 en 1823 door de Nederlanders volledig vernieuwd.
The Green Ramp is located on the Sambre side of the Citadel. Built in the second half of the 17th century, it allowed carriages and cannons to access the fortress. At the time, no roads crossed the site. It was therefore the only driveway leading from the city to the Citadel. If the origin of its name is not known, it should probably refer to the vegetation overlooking the ramp.
The Green Ramp was completely redone by the Dutch between 1820 and 1823
