Cannon at the Sälischlössli - Starrkirch-Wil, SO, Switzerland - Static Artillery Displays on Waymarking.com

EN: This old cannon stands in the outdoor seating area of the Sälischlössli south of Starrkirch-Wil. I could not figure out the model and its age. Not even if there's a particular reason this cannon is here. After all, the Sälischlössli - today a popular excursion restaurant - was built on the ruins of a castle, which was founded in 1260 and destroyed for the first time in a war between Bern and Habsburg in 1415. Then it was rebuilt, but from the mid-16th century only used as a fire lookout. Also then, cannons were used as alarm signals.

DE: Diese alte Kanone steht im Aussenbereich des Sälischlössli südlich von Starrkirch-Wil. Das Modell und ihr Alter konnte ich nicht herausfinden. Auch nicht, ob es einen besonderen Grund dafür gibt, dass sich diese Kanone hier befindet. Immerhin ist das Sälischlössli – heute ein beliebtes Ausflugsrestaurant – auf den Ruinen einer Burg erbaut, die um 1260 gegründet wurde und 1415 im Krieg zwischen Bern und Habsburg ein erstes Mal zerstört wurde. Danach wurde sie wieder aufgebaut, aber ab Mitte des 16. Jahrhunderts nur noch als Feuerwacht genutzt. Auch dabei wurden Kanonen als Alarmzeichen eingesetzt.
