 GEOCOIN DESCRIPTION 

The first geocoin issued for New Zealand and a personal coin of the 'HexTheKiwi' team, New Zealanders who lived in North Carolina. Since there was no 'official' New Zealand geocoin at the time, they decided to include an outline of New Zealand on the back. While there was no contact with local NZ cachers, the NZ Recreational GPS Society took over the sale for Australia and New Zealand. The geocoin shows the strange and wonderful gold kiwi bird on the back against a black background. The encircling wine red ring says: 'New Zealand, a Wonderful Place to Cache' 2006 Kiwi Geocoin. The front shows the outline of New Zealand in green on a blue background. In the surrounding black ring the country name is in English and Maori: NEW ZEALAND / AOTEAROA / GODZONE. GODZONE is the longest expedition adventure in the world, which attracts national and international teams from all over the world to New Zealand every March. Mixed teams of four travel day and night on foot, by mountain bike or kayak through a variety of different landscapes, which tests the mental and physical abilities of the participants to the limits. The route is kept secret from the teams until the day before the race. There are several route options for the teams, so strategic decisions are very important. Competitors switch from one means of transport to another at designated transition areas. The route is about 500 km long. The fastest team usually reaches the finish line in about 4 days, but teams are given up to 7 days to reach the finish.
