This Duck's Goal: Wildlife conservation awareness. I have teamed up with another geocacher in the States "CrotalusRex and Mimichan" in order to participate in the "Devils In Danger" caching game created by "Forthferalz" (See it at cachinggames.com)
This bug's mission is to travel the world from cache-to-cache with the goal of raising awareness of the deadly plight that the Tazmanian Devil is facing. I would like Malanas to stop in as many geocaches near waterways, ponds, lakes, etc as possible and eventually visit The Crocodile Hunter's CRIKEY Cache (GCA19) after visiting Tazmania where it will make a stop in the Devils in Danger Geocache (GCZ83E) and hopefully meet a Tazmanian Devil and then continue its roving journey around the world.
WILD INFO
The Tasmanian Devil (Sarcophilus harrisii), also referred to simply as 'the devil', is a carnivorous marsupial now found only in the Australian island state of Tasmania. The Tasmanian Devil is the only extant member of the genus Sarcophilus. The Devil is the size of a small dog, but stocky and muscular and it is the largest carnivorous marsupial in the world. It is characterised by its black fur, offensive odour when stressed, extremely loud and disturbing screech, and viciousness when feeding. It is known to both hunt prey and scavenge carrion and although it is usually solitary, it sometimes eats with other devils.
The Tasmanian Devil became extirpated on the Australian mainland about 400 years before European settlement in 1788. Because they were seen as a threat to livestock in Tasmania, devils were hunted until 1941, when they became officially protected. The Tazmanian Devil is the symbol of the Tasmanian National Parks and Wildlife Service. Since the late 1990s devil facial tumour disease DFTD has reduced the devil population significantly and now threatens the survival of the species, which may soon be listed as endangered. Programs are currently being undertaken by the Tasmanian government to reduce the impact of the disease.
Devil facial tumour disease (DFTD) is a fatal disease of the Tasmanian Devil. The first "official case" was described in 1995,
In the subsequent decade the disease ravaged Tasmania's wild devils, with estimates of decline ranging from 20% to as much as a 50% of the devil population, across over 65% of the state. Affected high-density populations suffer up to 100% mortality in 12–18 months. The disease has mainly been concentrated in the State’s eastern half, although in early 2005, three cases were confirmed in South Tasmania.
Visible DFTD symptoms begin as lesions and lumps around the mouth. The lesions and lumps develop into cancerous tumours that spread from the face to the entire body. The tumours interfere with feeding, and the affected animal may starve to death.
The Devil Facial Tumour Disease or DFTD, is having a devastating effect on the Tasmanian devil populations which had recovered from population decline in the 1940's when it was feared the animal would follow the Thylacine into extinction. The Tasmanian Devil is now listed as vulnerable in Tasmania. Source for above info

Strange, I saw this guy in a cache over a thousand kilometres south just yesterday, as far as I know he's still there! "picking up" and "dropping" to log this guy into his current abode.

We brought Malanas home for the night and he helped us put up a pergola, then he had a swim in our bathtub overnight so he was near water. Today we took him to Bribie and and thought how appropriate to leave him at Bill's Aquarium. NOTE: Don't let him stay too long as it is a little walk to water.
