It's amazing! Every jeep (all 20) that GeoROCKS has got his hands on are no longer in circulation. Do I see a little greed here? I think not. I see a lot of greed!

This Jeep travel bug may have saved a woman's life.

I left San Jose to hunt down a few of the Jeep travel bugs between home and Monterey. My journey was mostly aimless, but it was this travel bug that beckoned me this far from home.

I drove into Ford Ord and immediately spied a man walking toward the gate, frantically waving his arms above his head. He explained that his wife had been injured. She lay prone, resting the right side of her face in a growing pool of blood on the light grey asphalt. Several deep gashes ringed her face, and I couldn't tell whether or not the blood in her hair and helmet was from additional unseen injuries. I relayed everything to the 911 operator. While we awaited medics, "Chuck" told me neither of them had noticed the gravel-filled pit on the side of the road, and they had ridden into it at high speed, with "Vicki" getting the worst of it. When the ambulance arrived, the EMTs quickly made the decision to have her flown by rescue helicopter to San Jose.

I offered to bring their bikes and equipment home, which Chuck accepted. If I'd owned a Jeep Wrangler, I probably wouldn't have had to take apart their bicycles, cramming them into both the back seat and trunk of my Saturn sedan, lightly soiling my leather interior with chain grease and blood. I collected their belongings and tossed the whole bloody mess into my small trunk.

Vicki is recovering in critical but stable condition in Intensive Care. She was lucky that I wanted to travel into Ford Ord at that exact moment to be a part of her rescue.

Thanks to geocaching and this Jeep travel bug!
