Current Goal

I would hope that this bug would inspire the owner to replace a cache that was lost in the Mission Trails Regional Park with this bug as part of the original swag. If that is not possible, just keep her moving!

About This Item

Butterfly5.jpg

Metamorphosis is the series of developmental stages insects go through to become adults. Butterflies have four stages of life: egg, larva (the caterpillar stage), pupa (the chrysalis phase), and adult. It takes a butterfly just 30 to 40 days to complete its life cycle, with warmer temperatures generally being responsible for faster development. Just like the butterfly, many of our favorite geocaching spots in San Diego are going through metamorphosis as a result of the devastating destruction of the Cedar, Otay and Paradise fires that raged through our region in October of 2003. This travel bug is one in a series of similar butterfly bugs made to illustrate the quick transformation of these trails from scorched earth to lush green paradise. A photo of the “Metamorphosis Family” has been posted to this site. See how many you can collect. (catch and release only, please!)

We found this in our very first cache. I love butterflies and wanted to track where it has been. WOW! We plan to take it up north with us this weekend during our travels.

Retrieve It from a Cache 3/19/2007 wickerwagon retrieved it from Lucky Horseshoe lake Washington   Visit Log

Silver Fox and I, wickerwagon retrieved this lovely item from the Lucky Horseshoe Lake cache. This is our first attempt at taking a travel bug and sending on it's journey so hope we don't mess it up. It will rest until June when we go to Florida to visit my grand kids. Then, we will take them geocaching--my grandson is already visiting the website and choosing some caches we can look for. He is a 'gadget boy' and already has talked his father out of HIS gps and learning to use it. We will place this travel bug in a cache in Crestview Florida. I would think June is not too long for this item to take wings and go so far!!!
