This was a fun project to do. I bought a CNC 6040 machine a while ago, and to train myself to use it I decided to do something with the Project-GC logo.
That did not turn out to be something easy to do, version 1 came and went, version 2, was better than version 1, but I was not happy with it. Version 3 was so bad that I trashed it.
Then I stumbled on an inlay technique that looked promising.
I took a large pine wood plank (180 x 300 mm) and cut out a flat surface. I then did the pockets for the GC-logo, the PGC-logo text and the hill.
From an old teak tray, I carved out the infill pockets for the GC-logo and PGC-logo text and glued them to place. After a day for the glue to set I sawed of the excess material. I then did the hill from oak and glued that, and removed excess material.
I proceeded to cut out the pocket for the trail, the inlay material was wych elm (skogsalm). When that was in place I cut the pocket for the spruce. The material for the spruce came from a tray that I had in the shed.
I then sanded down the surface, first with 80 grit, then 120 and a final touch with 240 grit.
The plank was finished with mineral oil that enhanced the look.
Today Magnus was over so that I could engrave the TB-code into it.
I am very pleased with the outcome of the project, and I am sure that Magnus will enjoy a very personal TB.
