To visit the Three Kingdoms (Wei, Han, and Wu) in China (along with anywhere else on the way) and come back to me in Austin TX!
Sanguo Yanyi (三國演義, The Romance of Three Kingdoms) is the second of the Four Great Chinese Classics, regarded highly as both history and literature (though license is taken with the characters and their interactions, the events of the novel are historical occurrances). As the Han Dynasty grows moribund, China divides into three kingdoms: Wei, led by the villainous Cao Cao; Wu, led by the highly capable Sun Quan; and Han, led by the virtuous Liu Bei and the politically and strategically brilliant Zhuge Liang. Basically, take The Iliad and The Prince, mix them in a blender, and spread them out over a century. The image on the back is one of the most famous moments from all of Chinese (and Asian) literature and art, The Oath in the Peach Orchard. When Liu Bei meets Guan Yu and Zhang Fei, the three pledge themselves to each other and the defense of the Han Dynasty with the pledge "Though we were not born in the same day and hour, we swear to the Gods that is how we wish to die." From this moment on, the three are referred to collectively as the Three Brothers and their relationship guides the course of the rest of the novel.
