The Anaheim Ducks are celebrating Selanne’s spectacular career 11.1.2015 by retiring his number before game against the Winnipeg Jets. Selanne was playing for the Jets when he launched his NHL career in 1992-93 by scoring 76 goals and winning the Calder Trophy.
The Finnish Flash will be remembered as one of the most productive and entertaining players in NHL history. He netted 684 goals and generated 1,457 points in 1,454 games. He roared up the ice like a Porsche on the open road. He owned breathtaking acceleration and a passing gear that struck fear into opposition defensemen. He could sling-shot past a defender like he was standing still.
He possessed one of the game’s quickest shot releases. By the time a team recognized that Selanne had uncovered the seam in its defense, he had fired a laser-like blast toward the net.
