Current Goal

It would be great if this travalbug would be placed in a cache in the city Alba wich is in the north of Italy, because there is the original Ferrero-factory, wich is the founder of Nutella.

And it would also be great if it gets taken out or placed in a cache on World Nutella Day, wich is February 5.

But simply traveling a lot wil be also fine. :-) Happy geocaching!

About This Item

Since I love Nutella (I prefer eating it with a spoon right out of the jar), and Nutella is celebrating it's 50's birthday this year (2014), this seems to be a great travelbug-subject!

Nutella 50

Interesting facts:

You could circle the world 1.4 times with the amount ofnutella produced
in one year.

You could cover the great wall of china 8 times with the number of jars of nutella sold
in a year.

There are so many jars of nutellamade each year, that they would line the banks of the danube 24 times over. that's a river so long, it flows through 10 different countries!

If you were to use the amount ofnutella consumed in one year as clay, you could build big ben 22,000 times.

It would take 41,923 hazelnuts to cover the circumference of the colosseum: that's 0.0001% of the number of hazelnuts used inside all the jars of nutella sold
in a year.

Nutella

Nutella is the brand name of a hazelnut chocolatespread. Manufactured by the Italian company Ferrero, it was introduced to the market in 1964.

Pietro Ferrero, who owned a bakery in Alba Italy, in the Langhe district of Piedmont, an area known for the production of hazelnuts, sold an initial batch of 300 kilograms (660 lb) of "Pasta Gianduja" in 1946. This was originally a solid block, but Ferrero started to sell a creamy version in 1951 as "Supercrema".

In 1963, Ferrero's son Michele Ferrero revamped Supercrema with the intention of marketing it acrossEurope. Its composition was modified and it was renamed "Nutella". The first jar of Nutella left the Ferrero factory in Alba on 20 April 1964. The product was an instant success and remains widely popular.

In France, senator Yves Daudigny proposed a tax increase on palm oil from €100 to €400 per metric tonne. At 20%, palm oil is one of Nutella's main ingredients and the tax was dubbed "the Nutella tax" in the media.

World Nutella Day is February 5.
