About This Item

The Trackable

#JusticeForSarah is the Campaign for The Sarah Groves Foundation.

About Sarah Groves

Sarah was born in Manchester on mid-summer's day 21st June 1988. Her life was tragically cut short when, for no apparent reason, she was brutally murdered on a houseboat on Dal Lake, Kashmir on 6th April 2013. She was almost 25 years old.

Sarah lived in Alderley Edge and Knutsford in Cheshire before moving to Guernsey in 1996. She attended three schools – Mount Carmel in Alderley Edge, Blanchelande College in Guernsey and St Mary's Ascot – where she spent 7 immensely happy and formative years. She then attended the Chelsea College of Art before returning to Guernsey where she became a fully qualified fitness instructor.

In the summer of 2012 she embarked on her first travel adventure by climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. She returned home briefly before setting off again to Goa and, sadly, to Kashmir. She was scheduled to climb to Everest Base Camp three weeks after her death to commemorate the 60th anniversary of Sir Edmund Hillary's first ascent in 1953.

The impact of Sarah's death has been devastating not only to her family but also to the huge number of her friends and acquaintances from all around the world. She was a truly remarkable person whose first thoughts were always for others rather than herself.

The Sarah Groves Foundation

The Sarah Groves Foundation is a Charity registered in Guernsey. Its aims are simple – to honour and keep alive the memory of Sarah through her passions and interests in life - Children, Art, Fitness and Adventure. Funds generated through donations and sponsorship will be distributed in line with the clearly defined policies of the Foundation which are set out below but which can be summarised as helping people to "live a life less ordinary". The Foundation will work closely with the Guernsey Community Foundation who will advise on the best ways to ensure all monies raised are spent wisely and without waste.

Children: Sarah loved children and forged strong relationships with young people wherever she went. Activities within this category will provide facilities, experiences and opportunities to young persons under the age of 16 that would otherwise be out of their reach financially or from an organisational perspective so that their lives may be less ordinary.

Art: Sarah's was very good at art and she loved it in all of its forms. Activities within this category will be aimed at providing experiences, opportunities and equipment to young persons under the age of 21 that will directly benefit their academic education and exam qualification processes in artistic subjects. In most cases, without the financial support of the Foundation, such opportunities would be out of their reach financially or organisationally.

Fitness: Sarah was a fitness instructor and at least one Fitness fundraiser will be organised by the Foundation each year and in 2014 this will be a repeat of the 600-mile round trip bike ride from St Malo to Paris made in 2013 by two cyclists in memory of Sarah – Gary Hooks and Leon Howard (pictured). The 2014 event will comprise 50 cyclists and will take place between 21st and 27th May.

Adventure: Each year at least one trip of an adventurous nature will be undertaken. In 2014 this will be to Kilimanjaro to re-enact Sarah's highly successful climb there in September 2012. Funds will be raised from individual sponsorship arrangements and contracts have been signed with a tour operator for this trip. Whilst in Tanzania a school where Sarah forged a strong relationship with the children will be re-visited and educational materials will be taken delivered to the school. Other trips under consideration are: Santiago de Compostella; Appian Way; Inca trail to Machu Piccu and base camp Everest.
