Transport the bug in the original plastic bag for as long as the bag lasts; this prevents the chain and tag tangling with other items. Otherwise, take this travel bug anywhere you wish. No permission needed to leave the U.S.
Visitor's Patch. This item was purchased in Vienna, in September 1911, at the complex of buildings that was once occupied by the Habsburg Monarchy. The size and opulence of the place defies description.
This bug represents the the earliest coat of arms of Austria on a white field, has been in use by the Republic of Austria since 1919. Between 1934 and the German annexation in 1938 Austria used a different coat of arms, which consisted of a double-headed eagle. The establishment of the Second Republic in 1945 saw the return of the original (First Republic) arms, with broken chains on the legs added to symbolize Austria's liberation (not present on this version). The symbols and emblems used in the Austrian arms are as follows: the eagle: Austria's sovereignty; the escutcheon (shield) is an emblem of Austria dating from the late Middle Ages; the mural crown (a walled crown having battlements) representing the middle class; the sickle for agriculture; the hammer for industry.
