The mission for this travel bug is... to travel.
Holey stones have many names including hag stones, witch stones, fairy stones or even Adder Stones.
In olden times it was common practice to hang a Hag Stone over the front door to ward off evil spirits, and to nail one over stable doors to prevent witches from riding the livestock. It is said that when large groups of adders congregated together (an event supposedly common on midsummer’s eve) and got entangled, their angry hissing produced adder stones by the mingling of their spit moulded around the serpent’s heads. Fisherman and sailors would tie Hag Stones to their boats to keep spirits from interfering with their journey. A Fairy Stone, hung above the bed, is supposed to aid a restful nights sleep.
Holes through stones occur through abrasion, when a fragment of grit is caught in a natural fault on a stone, and wave action causes it to grind out a dent into which a slightly larger stone can lodge and continue grinding away until it can pass all the way through. It is this cleansing association with running water that is believed to give the Hag Stone the power to guard against sinister forces.
Maybe this Hag Stone will protect the cache it's in from malevolant or meddlesome muggles.
