Current Goal

To travel round the world visiting places your Grandparents would like to visit!
(We would love it to get to: Switzerland, where my grandparents went for their, we think, silver wedding anniversary; The Isle of Man to see a Manx cat, they went on holiday there a lot, and finally Morecambe, especially near the Ocean Edge Caravan Park, in Heysham where they used to stay every year often with us. (The five grandchildren!)

About This Item

Big up Morecambe!

When this was released there were two items attached to this tag, the first a pools coupon for my Grandad this represants the dreaded ‘be quiet’ time on a Saturday tea, whilst eating homemade meat and potato pie and peas, plus apple pie every week! LOL Grandad -without fail listened to the football results and crossed the sheet to see if he had won!  We used to annoy him and predict the result Liverpool 1 Leeds 4… His only grandson my older brother was the only one who was remotely interested!
The second for my Grandma, a shiny piece of jewellery- Grandma had a special hidden drawer for her jewellery in a cabinet that Grandad, a joiner, had made for her! Her 4 granddaughters often played shops with these items, I the youngest got to keep them!

It would appear both items have now been removed from the tag sad please feel free to attach anything shiny as it continues its journey.

Top Ten Golden Grandparent Memories.
Elsie Nixon –nee Haggas, an April Fool! 01.04.1916 – June 1999.
George Nixon 24.07. 1912- November 1985. (Died of Asbestos cancer.)

If anyone knew them or my dad Walter Nixon please get in touch!

10.Looking around Peter Blacks of Keighley at the old fashioned cars and buses and sitting in them, often blowing a horn! Grandad used to clean them for Peter Black himself!
9.Playing on the old pinball machines he also used to clean for Peter Black.
8.Going to Cliffe Castle Park and around the Museum with Grandma, across the iron bridge from Lawkholme. Walking up to the house through the blue bells. Getting to choose a bouncy ball from the glass cabinet in the café or a lolly!
7.Making rose petal perfume.
6.Listening to her stories mainly about my dad Walter and his older brother Brian who got up to lots of tricks! Fireworks up the chimney, bringing a goat home, finding  a bag of kittens….
5.Colouring paper doyleys.
4.Going to see her sister, my aunty Lilly looking at her sparklies- sparkly jewellery and bringing some home.
3.Sitting in a cupboard over the pantry in Aunty Lillly’s house eating Fish and Chips from the Stock Bridge chippy!
2. Going down the cellar into granddads workshop, it was always very dark and he told me he kept a donkey down there?
1. Sleeping over in their Attic where my dad used to sleep which overlooks the Keighley Cougar rugby field, we never had to pay to watch! Playing in the stands at the rugby field with a mate I am still in touch with today from ‘up Grandmas’ street’ Jenny! Her grandma Lena and my grandma Elsie were good friends and had a sherry night often!
