Current Goal

I couldn't bear the thought of this custom-made geocoin going missing on travels, especially after learning of all the work that went into its production

On the other hand, the coin was intended to celebrate caching, not to sit in a drawer at Abanazar Heights.

Therefore I'd like this coin to be RESIDENTIAL. It should remain at its home cache at all times. Feel free to discover it, but please replace it exactly as you found it.

In keeping with this challenging cache, discovery of this coin isn't quite as straightforward as you'd expect

Lasciate's decoded instructions mention an "optional muddy crawl" near GZ. Proceed to that place and the coin is there, somewhere! It resides in its own bespoke hide. It is hidden in exactly the same way as the cache itself, so please use the same finding techniques. The coin is no more than 15m away from the cache, and the journey involves no squeezes

The coin itself is kept within a transparent container which is quite fiddly to open (especially with muddy hands/gloves), so I'm hoping that you will be able to see all the details without needing to open it. The case may get muddy though, so please do your best to keep it clean. Like everything else on this cache, we'll just see how it all goes

About This Item

Charon's Obol

This geocoin was kindly made and awarded by Amberel, for the geocache Lasciate ogne speranza, voi ch'intrate.

The obolus, or obol, was a Greek silver coin typically used in mythology as payment to Charon for passage in his ferry across the river Acheron to the first circle of Hell. The cache page picks up the story from there

Well they say "don't pay the ferryman - don't even ask the price" - but we touched the fated coin and after that it was more a case of "don't fear the reaper" ....

What a ride, what a ride. Beautiful coin!

First time in this cavern one of the team went into the final chamber to retrieve this so I did not discover it fully. This time I went right into the hole and as well as the Coin discovered some great formations on the rock faces.
