I found this one while "bug hunting" in Oakland/Berkeley...here is my log from the cache I found it in:
When my brother WRITE SHOP ROBERT told me that one of his personal Geocoins was in Montclair, I had to refrain myself from heading out in the middle of the night to go get it. However, running all the way to Oakland in the middle of the night didn't sound like the smartest idea for one coin, so instead I spent the night looking for other caches that I could visit while in the area. I wanted to visit caches that had multiple trackables in them, what I sadly found out is that most of the caches had trackables listed that were actually missing. I plan to work with Eartha the forum moderator to get the trackables marked as missing, so I hope other cachers won't have the same problems that I did. Now about this cache:
Bzerk Park+Rec Prphans #05: Charlie Dorr Mini-Park: At first I parked on Allston Way, and spent some time trying to figure out how to get into the abandoned Lawn Bowling court. I finally found a sign that said the entrance was around the corner on Acton St. As I rounded the corner I noticed a small park right as my GPS pointed directly to the right, so I parked and went into the park. Wow, I wish they had parks like this when I was a kid. There was the usual playground equipment of course, but apparently parents from the area have donated lots of out door toys for the little ones to play with. There was a couple of parents with their toddlers playing in the sand as i walked back towards GZ at the back of the park. After locating the cache I took a seat at the nearby picnic table in the shade under the nice arbor. I found both of the trackables I was looking for, and signed the log. As I was headed out of the park I saw two young men standing at the entrance with a Geomate Jr. I confirmed to them that the cache was here, and then decided to follow them in and watch them search. It is always such fun to watch others search for a cache that you have already located. After giving them a small hint, they were able to find the cache pretty quickly...I hope I didn't spoil it for them. We hung out at the picnic table and traded caching stories. I had a total of 8 trackables that I showed them so they could discover them, and "EV" let me discover his unreleased Geocoin. They really seemed to be enjoying the sport, and getting good exercise too since they do it all on foot! Maybe I'll bring "Minic" my friends 5yo here sometime when we're all caching together. Thanks for the fun.
