Philipp Melanchthon, eigentlich Philipp Schwartzerdt (* 16. Februar 1497 in Bretten - † 19. April 1560 in Wittenberg ), war ein Philologe, Philosoph, Humanist, Theologe, Lehrbuchautor, neulateinischer Dichter und wurde als „Praeceptor Germaniae“ (Lehrer Deutschlands) neben Martin Luther als Reformator treibende Kraft der deutschen und europäischen kirchenpolitischen Reformation.
