About This Item

Myth 1:

Motorcycle Helmets Break Necks

It seems logical—you put more weight out there on the end of your neck and when you get thrown off the bike, that extra weight will create more pendulum force on your neck. Turns out, it doesn't work that way. In fact, the energy-absorbing qualities of a DOT motorcycle helmet also absorb the energy that breaks riders' necks in impacts. Studies show that helmeted motorcyclists actually suffer fewer neck injuries when they crash compared to riders who crash without helmets.

From 1984 through 1994, it is estimated that helmets saved the lives of more than 6,995 Motorcyclists. If all motorcycle operators and passengers had worn helmets during those years, it is estimated that approximately 6,010 additional lives would have been saved.

I put I grabbed from the person cause I found it in gcqkn3, I so agree about helmets, I always wear mine when i am riding my bike, would still wear one if the law was different. Will place this next time i am out.

Retrieve It from a Cache 10/17/2010 4CachingFinns retrieved it from Dawn's 13th Michigan   Visit Log

Found it on a autumn walk. Will move along soon.
** I placed this in "NIghtfall" GC2GC6K during the Fall Back event. I was unable to log until today as the caches were not published until today (11/8). Unfortunately, it would not let me log it because the next person had already logged their find. Sorry about that.
