Gold Escudo Treasure Cache Geocoin

The 1715 Plate Fleet was the second treasure fleet of the Spanish Armada to encounter disaster and hurricanes after the 1622 loss of the Atocha and accompanying galleons. The makeup of the Spanish Treasure Galleons included a Capitana, Captain-General Don Juan Esteban De Ubilla’s flagship, which was carrying chests of New World gold and silver coins, bars, jewelry, emeralds, pearls, and K’ang-His Chinese porcelain (due to finding parts of this porcelain salvors dubbed this the plate fleet) and the Almiranta, San Roman which carried similar treasure and provided the rear guard of the fleet. Both the Capitana and Almiranta carried the bulk of the treasure for these fleets as they were the most heavily armored galleons.

This is the 2nd of a 3 coin series dedicated to the Florida Shipwreck Treasures. The picture truly does not do it justice. The coin is two tone gold and silver and features a Early New World Gold Escudo on the front and a Spanish Galleon on the back in Gold. The front reads “1715 Plate Fleet” and “Gold Escudo Treasure Cache”. The back reads “Capitana-Regla" and "Almiranta-San Roman" and track at geocaching.com. The detail and brightness of this coin is stunning. We have been unable to get a photograph that shows the great color, brightness and detail of this coin.
