This TB made from basalt lava (origin: Mendig, Germany) should visit as many caches assigned to volcanos as possible. Photographic proofs are highly appreciated.
Basaltlava aus Mendig in der Eifel ist ein porenreicher Vulkanstein, der hervorragend zur Herstellung von Mühlsteinen geeignet ist. Seine Besonderheit besteht darin, dass sich dieses Material durch Abrieb der Poren während des Gebrauchs selbst schärft. Bereits die Römer bauten Basaltlava in der Eifel ab.
Basalt lava from Mendig in the Eifel is a volcanic stone rich of pores, which has an explicitly convenient texture for making millstones. Its special feature is the fact that it is self-sharpening while being in use. Already the Romans broke basalt lava in the Eifel.
