The Gold Bug's first mission is to have his picture taken at the grave of Edgar Poe in Baltimore, Maryland (Although I have found claims that no headstone ever marked Poe's grave, I did find this photo of a stone which supposedly marks the original site. I know also that there is a family monument in the front of the cemetery which is supposed to be the final resting place of Edgar's remains. The cemetery itself is quite small and the traditional site of the grave is framed by the marble slab of the Reverend Patrick Allison at the left and a prominent mausoleum behind.) Also, please enter the correct latitude and longitude of the grave in the log. You will find a monument in the front of the cemetery - but this is NOT the grave site we want.
After visiting the site of the master, the Gold Bug's second mission is to visit Sullivan's Island, South Carolina, the general site of Poe's story The Gold Bug.
This travel bug, dedicated to Edgar Poe and his story The Gold Bug was launched with a cache named OHMIKY's Scarabaeus Croceus (GCYPJX)
Certainly the Gold Bug in the story was not entirely similar to this one - but had I it, I would more likely enclose it in a Bell Jar upon my study table than send it upon a mission - but that is a different story and a different author.
