The Taiji Gorge is situated in the upper part of Jiazouliao Stream around the Taan Village areas in the Jhushan Township of Nantou County, when the ground at Alishan went upwards and stratums collapse, water in the middle section of Jiazouliao Stream eroded the hard sandstone layer for a long time and awesome overhanging rocks and steep cliffs were formed at both banks, which resulted in the magnificent spectacle of Taiji Gorge.

The high precipice and the deep ravine at the center of the forest are the essence such a beautiful and natural scenery. The local residents call it "Shi-Hang Gorge" or "Taiji Gorge". The area divided into the upper Hang, middle Hang, and lower Hang with tremendously different features.
