Located South West of Pottageville, Ontario near Glen Echo Nature
Park on a section of the Oak Ridges Moraine Trail.
Cache elevation: 317m
It comes as a suprise to many when they realize there is a
Nudist Resort right in the middle of King Township! The ironic
thing is it's location. Pottageville has always been know as a
mosquito heaven! Why on earth would you choose to locate a clothing
optional park in the middle of mosquito country? Luckily with the
concerns over West Nile Virus, this area has a high priority for
local mosquito control efforts. Either way, wear some repellent
with deet, just to be safe!
The cache is a camouflage painted ammo can hidden in in the Y of a
fallen tree. Plan on hiking just over 1km along the the moraine to
reach the cache.
You can park and enter the Oak Ridges Trail from the East along 7th
Concession at: N43 58.260 W79 37.071. You can also access the trail
from the West along 8th Concession, but that involves traversing
muddy farm fields and more creek crossings than I could
count.
The Oak Ridges Moraine extends 160 kilometres from the Niagara
Escarpment in the west to the Trent River system in the east, and
is on average 13 kilometres wide. One-hundred-and-fifty metres
deep, the Moraine stands out as one of the most distinct landscapes
of southern Ontario. Its height above the flat lands to the north
and south, its rolling hills and river and stream valleys and large
blocks of mixed forest provide solace and a sense of connection to
the people who live, work and play on the Moraine, natural and wild
habitat for flora and fauna, and untapped recreational
opportunities.
NOTES:
- Winter friendly, though it will be under some snow.
- Night raid friendly.
- Family friendly, but watch out for jogging nudists!
- Bicycles are not allowed on this section of the ORM
Trail.
