HaLiJuSaPa: I ("Ha") had a rare weekday off for various reasons, so went with "Li" for a nice walk in these woods to do maintenance checks while the kids were in school.

Not only is the box gone, but the hiding spot is now covered with mushrooms (don't eat them! [:o]) and tree rot. So we think it had a great 4-year run in it's two spots and we're putting this one to bed. [:(]

Our other hide in these great woods is currently disabled and will hopefully be back soon. Thanks for all who came by and enjoyed this cache.

Geocache Description:

Hidden by the kids for kids (and kids at heart). A cache filled with items kids can have fun with, but a wonderful walk in the woods for cachers of all ages.

This is the rebirth of Kyle and Ryan's Kid Kick Cache (GCM6R1), which we adopted in September of 2006. Current conditions near the cache site were not too "kid friendly", so we decided to archive and move it to the other end of these woods about 1/4 mile south of the original location.

If possible bring a child with you when searching for this box and let them enjoy it (they may need a little help with the final find itself though). If you really can't find a child, just be a kid at heart yourself, this is actually a very nice stroll in the woods for grownups as well.

Like Kyle and Ryan, our children love kicking things. (Sometimes too much!) In this spirit, we took what was salvagable from the original cache and added other goodies into an Ammo Box for others to find filled with things to play with (as well as a couple of WG$1 and a geocoin). We're all looking forward to visiting the box every once in a while to see what neat things others may have left, and to read the log.

Anyone who found the original cache (the one in the old location from late 2006 and before) is welcome to re-find this one and get a new smiley.

The easiest way (especially if you're bringing kids) to find this cache is to park at the waypoint given below. Note that the guardrails are there to stop entrance by motorized vehicles, these woods are free and open to the public. Then it is a short 500-600 foot or so walk to the cache. Alternatively, for a little more challenge, you can enter these woods at the other end at Gramatan Ave. and take a nice, generally level hike of about 1/3 mile to the cache site.

(NOTE: We advise against taking the Normandy Road entrance that was the closest approach to the old cache site; starting from there will involve wading a stream; it is also a somewhat steep climb down from there with very limited parking).

We strongly encourage you to take the entire trail and explore this wooded oasis in a major urban/suburban area. To encourage further, we have a 2nd cache in this park(GCZDN3), which is part of our "Diamond in the Rough" series of caches in "wilderness preserves" in urban locales. Our team founder used to ride his BMX bike here quite often back when he was a kid and we hope others enjoy this great spot as much as we do. This link: (visit link) explains how this place started as a right of way for the Cross County Parkway, but was kept as a nature preserve when it was decided to construct the highway 1/4-1/2 mile south of here.
