Nivaagaard Teglværks Ringovn

I Karlebo Kommune har der været fremstillet tegl siden middelalderen, og de mange lergrave omkring Nivå vidner om teglværksepoken. Nivaagaard Teglværk blev anlagt ved Nive Å i 1701 af Frederik IV's dronning Louise. I 1862 købte konsul Alfred Hage teglværket. I begyndelsen af 1860 havde den tyske ingeniør Friedrich Hoffmann opfundet en ringovn, der kunne brænde kontinuerligt. Alfred Hage fik ham i 1864 til at komme til Nivaagaard Teglværk og opføre sin nye ringovn - verdens første.
Ringovnen var i brug i mere end 100 år og leverede sten til mange store byggerier i København og omegn. Den stoppede i 1967 og forfaldt hurtigt. En restaurering startede i midten af 1980'erne og der arbejdes på at indrette ovnen som museum.

Nivaagaard Teglværks Ringovn

The local community of Karlebo has been making tiles since the late medieval age, and the many clay pits around Nivå shows the signs of the tile- and brickworks era. Nivaagaard Teglværk was constructed at Nive Å in 1701 by Frederik the 4th’s wife Queen Louise. In 1862 consul Alfred Hage bought the tileworks plant. In the early 1860’s, the German engineer Friedrich Hoffman had designed a ring oven that would burn continuously, and Alfred Hage had the German engineer come to Nivaagaard Teglværk in 1864 and construct this new ring oven. It became the first of its kind in the world. The ring oven was in use for more than a hundred years and it delivered tiles for many large constructions in Copenhagen and the neighbourhood, however production ceased in 1967, and it did not take long for the building to decay. In the mid 1980’s a restoration begun to recreate the oven as a museum.
