El Techo del Mallorca - El Cache del Massanella
The highest and for the Moment one of the "hardest" Caches on Mallorca.
If you think you are tough enough to make this Challenge???
You are Welcome to have the best View over the complete Island.
With 1365 Meters the Massanella is the highest attainable Point for "normal" Persons. The highest Mountain of Mallorca is "Puig Major" directly in the Neighbourhood with 1436 Meters. But on Major is a Military Base and so the Entrance is closed for us. But you will have an fantastic view to this Military Base when you are on the Way to the Cache
But watch out.
!!!THIS HIKE WILL BE NOT A SUNDAY AFTERNOON WALK ALONG THE BEACH !!!
You have to know that you start a walk with a length of 15 km, an elevation of 1100 Meters and that it takes approx 7 – 8 hrs to make this Tour.
Before you Start your Trip consider that following things are essential:
* Good Mountain Boots
* Enough to drink ( 2 – 3 LTR)
* Something to Eat
* Warm and Windproof Clothes or Jackets
* Hiking Sticks are helpful
* It’s absolutely necessarily to take a look at The Weather forecast
Now we come to the bigger Problem: How to get up on this Mountain?
There are 3 Possibilities:
The easy one: For this Route you Start your Walk at The Fuel Station "Coll de sa Batalla" at
N 39 48.679 E 2 53.377. But from here you must cross the Land of Comafreda. And you have to Pay 4,- € for crossing the Nature Park.
But this is the "easiest" Way to get on the Mountain, the Complete Way is marked with Sign’s, Red Points and little Stone Pyramids.
The other 2 Possibilities are at the End harder to walk, it will be very scarped and you have to Climb. Once you can Park your Car at the "Cuber Lake" at
N 39 47.247 E 2 47.958. From here you follow the Signed Hiking Way "GR 221".
The second possibility is, you start your Walk at "Santuari de Lluc" at N39 49.170 E2 53.001 and follow the same Hiking Way "GR 221".
At both Way’s you will arrive at WP 1 (look at the Map by the Spoiler Pictures).
From here you have to leave the Hiking Way GR 221 and you have to try to come to WP 2 (the red Pointed Line on the Map) but you have to know that this Line is not a really "Way".
This Path is at the beginning marked with little Stone Pyramid’s that are not always good visible or to find.
At WP2 is on a bigger Rock a large Stone Pyramid that you´ll see from a big Distance, so you can go in a Straight line by bearing.
Arrived at WP 2 you are at the unique place where you can get without any Climbing Gear on the Massanella Wall from the North Side, it´s a climb up a 4 Meter high Wall.
When you made this "Starter Pack" you will have an amazing view over the half Island. Now you crossing in Direction SW the Mountain to WP 3, here you will find again little Stone Pyramids which show yhe Way on the Top of the Mountain.
But you have to know that it’s from here now over with hiking.
From here it´s very scarped and we start climbing.
Please look that everything that you not need for climbing is fastened at your backpack, or that it is in your Pocket’s, and these have to be closed.
In front of you is now a climb with 200 Meters of elevation.
You are climbing up at the unprotected Westside of the Massanella, you may reckon with very strong Wind blasts. We had blasts up to 90-110 km/h.
Don’t go upright, if you make a Stop search for a Place in the slipstream. And dont forget: Everything what you lay down will be directly blown away.
So, if you have the Impression that it is cold, please put your Jacket on at WP 3. Up here you´ll have no Chance, and it´s to dangerous.
When you reached at the Top, you will see at a big Stone Pyramid on your the left Side. Now you are entering the "High-Plateau" of the Massanella, and in the Distance of 500 Meters you see the Peak and the Place where you have to go.
Arrived at the Top of the Massanella at N 39 48.363 E 2 51.180 you find, like on all other Mountains too, the Base of a Survey Point. Only that here the Pylon disappeared in the Years.
At this Base you find 2 Metal Plates.
This 2 Plates have you to compare with the Plates at the Photos.
Plate 1: Wow many Words you miss at the Plate that is shown at the Photo? G = _
Plate 2: Place the Numbers at the Place of the Letters. A = _ B = _ C = _ D = _ E = _ F = _
You find the Cache here: N 39 48. G F (D-F) E 2 51. C (D-C-A) (F+G-A)
! ! ! ! ATTENTION VERY IMPORTANT ! ! ! !
To prevent that any "Clowns" log this Cache without to have it found, is noted on one of the first Pages of the Logbook a Tracking Number from a Geo-Coin.
If you found the Cache it´s absolutely necessary that you NOTE THE TRACKING NUMMBER!!!
To proof that you found the Cache you have to discover the Coin.
All Cache-Logs WITHOUT a Coin-Log are immediately deleted without any Comment.
Surly it’s very helpful to know that the "Guardian" at the Camofreda Land is only there from 09:00 in the Morning to 17:00 in the Afternoon. So when you go up over Lluc and come down over Comafreda and you have nothing to Pay. When we came down at 17:15 he was already gone, and at the Gate is a Ladder to come over the Fence.
If anyone is interested, I have the complete Way as Track and will mail it to everyone who wants to have it. With the Track it is much easier to find the Way up and you have more Time to enjoy the fantastic View´s.
I advert again to it that you here start an High–Alpine Excursion.
If you are not in good Condition or not good at Climbing, please stay down, it is for your own security.
Here on this Mountain it’s over with joking, every mistake will be fast and hard punished. And there are enough that paid carelessness behaviour with her life.
