Geocache Description:

A short distance off the Rutland Trail about 1/2 mile from Blind Crossing Road in the Stockholm State Forest. This is a cash cache; bring a foreign (not from the US or Canada) coin or low-value bill to trade.

The Rutland Railroad used to bring freight from Ogdensburg (which was the last navigable port downstream from the Great Lakes prior to the construction of the St. Lawrence Seaway) to the eastern seaboard. It also brought fresh milk, cheese, and butter from the dairy region on the top of New York State to the markets in Boston and New York. The refrigerated boxcar was invented by the Rutland Railroad. It was a car build within a car, and the space in-between filled with cork insulation and ice used to keep the contents cool. Ice was plentiful in the North Country, harvested from frozen lakes.

The cache is a 6" long oval rubbermaid container initially stocked with:

  • a one Sri Lankan rupee coin
  • a two Sri Lankan rupee coin
  • a ten Sri Lankan rupee note
  • a twenty Sri Lankan rupee note
  • a fifty Sri Lankan rupee note
  • a fifty ore Norwegian coin
  • a one penny UK coin
  • a five Indian rupee note
  • a ten Indian rupee note
  • a two cent Euro coin

  • a ten kuna Croatian note
  • a Bell System Property mechanical pencil
  • a supply of the World's Smallest Political Quiz
  • a log book
  • a NNYGEO trackable Geocoin previously seen in Rutland Trail #1.

Total value of the currency is about US$3, so please don't think you're going to get rich by emptying the cache of all its contents.
