Geocache Description:

This is a micro cache placed at Hill Head near to the Titchfield Haven Nature Reserve. This is a lovely area to visit so we felt it deserved a cache but when you get there you’ll see why we opted for a micro. This cache celebrates our 1st anniversary as Geocachers.

Parking is free both alongside the road and at the car park at Hill Head Sailing Club (visit link) although it can be busy during the summer months.

We recommend parents keep an eye on their children as the road is quite narrow by the cache and you do have to cross it to reach the cache. Although cars tend to go past quite slowly there is still a danger what with road on one side and the harbour on the other.

Stealth may be required as this can be a busy area. Please replace carefully. The micro contains a log book only - bring your own pen or pencil. No space for swaps as it is a 35mm film canister partially disguised with black tape.

Close to the cache you can feed the ducks and swans in the harbour, view the wildfowl and seagulls on the Haven itself, and check out the Visitor Centre. The Titchfield Haven Visitor Centre is free, and it offers a small exhibition centre, shop, tea room and toilet facilities. See this website for opening times (visit link) . If you’re serious about your bird watching bring your binoculars and take a guided tour of the Haven for a small charge.

A short walk along the sea wall to the west will be rewarded with views across the Solent to the Isle of Wight………and there’s an ice cream van near the Meon Shore holiday homes. (If it isn’t there you can see where it would be as it has an allocated parking space!).

A short walk past the Sailing Club to the east leads to the beach suitable for paddling and building sandcastles depending on whether the tide is in or out (respectively). Check here (visit link) for tide times.
