Geocache Description:

Located in Alver Wood adjacent to B3334. Not pushchair friendly - access across a busy road and via a stile.

Alver Wood is a small area which makes up part of the Alver Valley. Although close to a main road the wood is a refuge for all types of wildlife. We have seen deer and have also been informed that it is a haven for the endangered water vole. The local ranger, who gave permission for the cache to be place in the wood, will remove it if he considers that any wildlife is being compromised.

There is no need to leave the main footpath to find the cache. When placing the cache we had some trouble obtaining the coordinates because of tree cover. This may be better during the winter months.

The cache itself is now an ammo box. Initial contents were: log book & pen, torch, erasers, keyring, pack of OO gauge railway characters, neck loop for glasses. There is also an unactivated TB dog tag for the first to find.

For parking we would suggest using the minor road which runs parallel to the main Rowner Road. Turn into Carisbrooke Road at the traffic light and the immediately left. Please take care when crossing the main road it can be very busy.
As this is our first cache we would be grateful for any comments.
