Lantern Hill Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

CTReviewer: Greetings from Geocaching.com

I have been looking at caches in the area and it looks like your cache has been under the weather for some time. I also see you have not been active in caching for a while. Therefore, I have archived this cache. If you haven’t done so already, please pick up any remaining cache bits as soon as possible.

When repairs to this cache are completed and it is time to have it reposted, it will be no problem. Just drop me a note and let me know the GC waypoint number of the cache or better yet, the URL of the cache page. You will still be able to access your cache page just as before by going to your “My Cache Page” and clicking the link of your cache.

I will be more than happy to take a look at your cache again to see if it is still is within the guidelines of the Geocaching.com website for cache placement and posting. I want to thank you for the time that you have taken to contribute to geocaching in the past and am looking forward to seeing your cache up and running in the future.

Thanks for your understanding,
CTReviewer

Geocache Description:

Park at N41 28.019, W071 56.731 on Wintechog Hill Rd off of Rt2 0.5 miles E of the Foxwoods casino. Trail is part of the Naragansett series and is a somewhat steep, climb (~200 vertical feet, 0.4 miles) to the cache. When faced with a fork in the trail, choose "up." Slightly past the cache are great views on both the E and W sides of the ridge (see gallery). Caution!! Steep drop-offs, the cache location is not near them. Winter hiking is ill-advised. Enjoy!

Lantern hill is a ridge of pure quartz rock from which one can see 5 states (CT, NY, MA, RI, VT) on a clear day. The hill gets its name from its use as a look-out station during the war of 1812 by the residents of Stonington, CT where tar barrel lanterns were lit to signal the approach of British war ships.

The cache is a standard ammo box with lots of kid stuff, a FTF prize and a disposable camera. Please email me when the camera is full. Please replace carefully as the top of the mountain is a popular place in the summer.
