Der Col du Chasseral (1502 müM) befindet sich im Berner Jura und verbindet "La Neuveville" am Bielersee mit St-Imier. Seine Länge beträgt 29km. Er überquert die südlichste und höchste Kette des Juras. Von der Passhöhe aus empfiehlt sich ein Abstecher zum Gipfel des Chasseral, dem Dach des Juras, von wo aus man bei guten Sichtverhältnissen nicht nur den Blick übers Schweizer Mitteland bis zum Alpenkamm, sondern auch bis zu den Vogesen und den Schwarzwald hat. Dass es noch weitere Geocaches auf dem Chasseral hat, hast du bestimmt schon bemerkt...
Wenn du die kurze "Gasse" beim Cache hochgehst, wirst du nach 1 Minute an einen Aussichtspunkt hoch über St-Imier gelangen. Vor dir befindet sich der Mont Soleil mit seinen Windkraftwerken und der grössten Sonnenkraft Anlage der Schweiz. Wenn du den bewaldeten Südhang vom Mont Soleil genau betrachtest, wirst du einen riesigen Einschlagkrater eines Meteors (Deep Impact) erahnen können. (Siehe Foto). Es handelt sich hierbei um den vermutlich grössten Meteoreinschlag in der Schweiz.
Col du Chasseral (1502 m) is situated in the Bernese Jura. It connects "La Neuvevill" at the Lake of Bienne with Saint Imier. The length is 29 km. You ride up to the highest Jura mountain range.
Beeing on top of the pass, I suggest to do the short ride up to the restaurant. There from you've got a tremendous view over "half" of Switzerland and the Alps. If you decide to walk from there up to the summit of Chasseral you can even see as far as the Vosgues or the Black forest.
Walk just a few steps up from the cache and you'll have a wonderful view over Saint Imier. Just in front of you you'll see Mont Soleil with it's Wind power stations. Up there's the largest solar power plant of Switzerland too. Just to the right of it and there from below you may rekognize a crater in the forest. It's the remainings of the probably hugest deep impact in Switzerland ever (some millions of years ago of course). See foto.
