Geocache Description:

Kolka horn cache.

The north-western tip of Latvia around Cape Kolka (Kolkas rags) offers some of the most ruggedly beautiful landscape in the country. It is also geologically unique because retreating waters of Litorina sea formed lines of swamps (vigi) and sand dunes (kangari) in large area. Each swamp/sanddune combination indicates the former position of sea shore as water levels dropped and land extended northwards.

"Kolka" in Livonian (who where the original inhabitants of the area) means "death" and one just has to look at the navigation charts of the sea around the cape to see why. Kolka bank reaches 6 kilometers out in the sea and is one of the biggest graveyard of ships in Baltic sea. Legends tell, that looting shipwrecks was once a significant part of local economy.

Cache is in a glass jar holding notebook, pencil and candlestick as a souvenir.
