Geocache Description:

GHOSTBUSTER SERIES CACHE 2 "The Demon Murder Case"

ABOUT THE GHOSBUSTER SERIES

This is the SECOND of a four part series of GHOSTBUSTER Caches in the State of Connecticut. Once you have completed all four caches you will receive the official designation of “GHOSTBUSTER”. To achieve this highly coveted title however you will need to test your courage as well as your GPS skills.

The four cache locations of the series all have had allegations of haunting or spirit activity. There are various levels of documentation and incident descriptions available for each location. Some have been made into TV documentaries or Movies. You can decide for yourself if any of these are real or if in fact there are real live ghosts anywhere.

Cache 1 – Woodbury Episcopal Cemetery - (allegations of Haunting)
Cache 2 - Brookfield Based on the movie “The Demon Murder Case”
Cache 3 - Southington Based on TV Documentary “A Haunting in CT”
Cache 4 - Cornwall - Dudleytown (Local Folk lore of a haunted ghost town)

THE DEMON MURDER CASE

This Cache is located in Williams Park. (visit link)

The story behind this one is quite interesting. In the very early 1980s Brookfield and Danbury became very famous over this case. A man from the area committed a murder and attempted to use “DEMONIC POSSESION” as a defense. Yes the old “Devil made me do it” defense.

This story also has been on the Discovery Channel as one of their "Haunting" documdrama series episodes.

Now available on Youtube (visit link)

The core of the plot begins in Brookfield where a boy was allegedly possessed by the devil. The boyfriend of the boy’s sister challenged the Devil to take him on instead and leave the boy alone. Shortly thereafter the man committed a murder.

(As a side note – A person familiar with the family priest personally told me that the priest had witnessed the boy during one of his incidents and that the boy took on the form and behavior of an animal) hmmm – We have a nephew like that too

The case was to be tried in Danbury Superior Court and the eyes of the world (Media, Tabloids and the like) were all on Danbury and Brookfield. The Warrens were involved and media coverage was whipped up into a frenzy.

The hype eventually fizzled out when the Judge ruled out such a defense could be used and everybody went home. The man was convicted of manslaughter and the tabloids and cameras all went away, the Devil has since moved on and currently is possessing our nephew.

The story received so much attention however that a TV Movie was made based on the actual events and was entitled “The Demon Murder Case” starring Kevin Bacon as the killer. The movie was shot on location in Newport Rhode Island but we all knew that it all happened here in Brookfield and Danbury.

(THIS STEP NO LONGER REQUIRED FOR GB STATUS)

The cache is at the above posted coordinates but you should drive by the following coordinates to get full credit for this cache. You should not need to get out of your car to get the required information. You may log the cache if you find it but you cannot achieve Ghostbuster Status unless you identify one of the following and e-mail us the answer.

1. Coordinates for the approximate area of the residence where the boy was possessed. N 41 28.080 W 073 23.856 E-mail us the date on the bridge going over the Rail Road Tracks.

2. Coordinates for a real Haunted House in Brookfield- This house has been known to be certifiably haunted and official real estate legal disclosure filings confirmed this. This house has nothing to do with the demon murder case however. As of the date of this cache report the house is listed for sale and is may also be disclosed as still being haunted. N 41 28.829 W 073 24.130 – E-mail us the number on the mail box.

UPDATE - This house is still vacant. Alot of weird stuff going on there. The neighbors are seeing lights move around the house at night. Some neighbors have seen the ghost in a window. Real Estate agents are pointing fingers at eachother for leaving the lights on - lights are going on and off by themselves. FYI FWIW

DO NOT MOVE ANY STONES WHEN SEEKING OR REHIDING THIS CACHE!

THIS CACHE IS A CONTINUATION OF THE ORIGINAL CACHE BUT IN A NEW LOCATION SO YOU MAY LOG A FIND EVEN IF YOU LOGGED CACHE 2 BEFORE.

Original Cache Contents: Two Honey Wolf Wildcard Packs (FTF has choice of any) , Two Wheresgeorge Bills, foreign coins, signature cards and some spooky stuff.
