Access Permit Goes Into Effect January 1, 2012 The Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries (DGIF) will require an Access Permit for visitors to department-owned Wildlife Management Areas (WMAs) and public fishing lakes effective January 1, 2012, who are age 17 and older, unless they possess a valid Virginia hunting, freshwater fishing, or trapping license, or a current Virginia boat registration, or are otherwise waived. The Facility Use Permit requirement does not apply to Department-owned boat ramps or segmentsof the Appalachian Trail on Department-owned land. Cost for the Daily Access Permit is $4 per person. Cost for the Annual Access Permit is $23 per person and both prices include the $1 per transaction license agent fee. Daily or Annual Access Permits for WMAs and department-owned public fishing lakes statewide will be available January 1, 2012 for purchase online, by calling 1-866-721-6911 during business hours, or at any license agent such as a local Wal-Mart.
This is the 13th cache in our Fallin' For Virginia series. Our goal is to bring you to some of the most beautiful but least known waterfalls of Southwest Virginia.
Tumbling Creek flows from high on Flattop Mountain and offers many views of rapids, excellent rock formations and of course beautiful waterfalls. The Big Falls is the larger of the three falls we have featured along the road. The Falls are high (20 feet) and wide. The stream is full of trout and for a small fee, you may fish this area.
Finding the cache as well as viewing the Falls can be from the road so there is no need to bushwack. You may go down the steep bank for closer viewing of the Falls but it is steep and slick and you go at your own risk.
Hunting is allowed in the area during the appropriate seasons so you may want to wear Blaze orange accordingly. Topographly, this area does not lend itself to good hunting but. it is allowed.
The above coordinates are for the parking spot. At the parking spot, take a bearing of 110 degrees and walk East. We couldn't receive good satellite readings at the cache hiding spot so you will probably want to use the hint. Please post cache coordinates if you are able to recieve accurate readings from your GPS.
The new cache container is a camo-painted, 3X 3 X 2 Loc-n-loc box.

NOTE There are two other caches on this road. The Twin Hollows Falls (GCXBHG) is less than .2 mile down the road and the Little Tumbling Falls (GCXBJ7) is .1 mile up the road. Go a bit further and there are three more caches around the Lake.
