Geocache Description:

Here it is, the (I hope "First Annual") Leigh Ann's Birthday Gourmet Pot Luck Picnic!

WHERE: Lake Temescal Park, Oakland - (visit link)
WHEN: 30 July, noon 'til dark
WHAT: A birthday picnic!

Leigh Ann's birthday is 31 July, a Monday, so we're going to celebrate a day early.
On Sunday, 30 July, from about noon until dark, we will hold a picnic at Lake
Temescal Park in Oakland in her honor.

Leigh Ann could cook ... hoo boy, could she cook! Because of that, this isn't going
to be any old potluck picnic. Oh, no. Instead, this is your chance to show us what
you got: cook up your dainty delicacies, fabulous foodstuffs, gourmet gastronomic
gratifications. Then come on out to the park and show off to a bunch of Leigh Ann's
friends. There will be barbecue grills available for cooking or reheating.

(You can see a few of Leigh Ann's recipes and some of her writing about food at (visit link) )

WE provide: soft drinks, barbecue grills (two double grills, industrial size) and
charcoal, enough picnic space for 150 people, and our own food contributions.

YOU bring: yourself and whoever else you please, food enough for yourself and some
to share. Musical instruments if you got 'em and feel the urge. An appetite. A
party attitude.

THERE IS A PARKING FEE: $5 per vehicle. Carpools GOOD. The picnic is at the SOUTH
end of the park. There is a parking lot at the north end, but it's quite a walk to
the picnic area from there. ...Alas, the south parking lot is much smaller than the
north one.

If you use public transit, we will pick you up from Rockridge BART. Reply to this
message to coordinate with me about that.

Swimming is available for a fee: $3 if you're 16 - 61, $2 otherwise. Fishing
requires a license and a $4 day permit.
Dog are allowed, but there is a $2 fee per dog.

DIRECTIONS to the south parking lot:

The park is at the intersection of Hwy 13 and Hwy 24, near the Caldecott Tunnel in
Oakland. From any starting point, take Hwy 13 to Broadway Terrace. Turn left onto
Broadway Terrace, then left again into the park.

If you are both a bicyclist and a masochist, you can come up Broadway Ave in Oakland
to Broadway Terrace, which is just north of the intersection of Broadway and College
Ave, then come over the hill (several miles) to the park. Caution: it's a serious
hill.

AC Transit claims it is possible to take a bus to the lake. Don't believe them.
