Viene normalmente definita come Valle Bertuzzi un comprensorio comprendente anche Val Cantone e Valle Nuova. Ha una superficie di 2.000 ettari e si estende immediatamente a Sud del Po di Volano, tra Vaccolino, Lido di Volano e il Lago delle Nazioni, e le valli bonificate di S. Giuseppe. E' caratterizzata da numerosi dossi pressochè paralleli che l'attraversano nel senso da Sud a Nord, alcuni ricoperti da veri e propri boschetti di Leccio.
La salinità della valle è abbastanza contenuta; le acque di ricambio sono derivate dal Po di Volano, nelle vicinanze della foce.
La vegetazione è quella tipica delle valli salmastre con diverse alghe e Ruppieti nei fondali, Giunchi, Salicornia e Puccinellia nei terreni emersi e Agropireti nelle parti più alte.
La fauna ittica è ricca prevalentemente di Cefali, Anguille e Branzini. La presenza di Svassi, Aironi (tra i quali anche l'Airone bianco maggiore), Fenicotteri (stanziali ma non ancora nidificanti), Anatidi, Limicoli, Rallidi e Gabbiani caratterizza la valle in tutti i periodi dell'anno. Vi nidificano la Garzetta ed il Cormorano.
A quelle vallive si aggiungono le specie di uccelli tipiche di selva e prateria quali la Cornacchia, la Gazza, l'Averla piccola, la Cutrettola e il Fringuello. Imponenti sono i lavorieri e il casone di pesca di Valle Bertuzzi, ben visibili dalla Strada Acciaioli, dietro l'abitato di Lido di Volano.
