The primary Jewish cemetery was situated opposite to the Padowetz palace, at the lower level than the current railway station. This primary cemetery was ruined. In the year 1852 the Jewry living in Brno bought a piece of land on the Julian fields and found the new cemetery there. Today you can see tombstones made from sandstone, calcite or marble. There are Hebrew texts on the tomstones. The tobstones have a typical structure, symbology and decorative items. The outstanding dominant of the cemetery is the new ceremonial hall opened in 1900.

The Jewish cemetry in the Brno – Zidenice is state protected historic landmark. It is the largest Jewish cemetry in the Moravia. There are 11 thousands graves pooled there. You can found there among others the grave in which Hugo Haas is buried. The cemetery is one of the few ones in which the old books of burried people are well-preserved.

The Jewish cemetery is open for public every day including Sundays and public holidays. The cemetery IS CLOSED every SATURDAY and during all Jewish high days and saint’s days.
